Salt Typhoon cyberattack

Chinese state-sponsored hacking group Salt Typhoon was revealed to have compromised at least nine major US telecom companies, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Lumen. The operation enabled real-time location tracking of millions of Americans and interception of phone calls.

Phone calls of President Trump and VP Vance were among those intercepted. On January 17, 2025, the US Treasury sanctioned Chinese firm Sichuan Juxinhe for direct involvement. This is one of the largest telecom espionage incidents in US history.
